Roles and Functions of the Society

The Literary Society of Loreto College fosters creativity, communication, and critical thinking through activities like poetry readings, debates, writing workshops, and literary fests. It promotes inclusivity by encouraging multilingual and multicultural engagement.

Contribution to NAAC Criteria

The society enriches the academic environment and supports the Teaching-Learning process by enhancing creativity and public speaking. It contributes to Research, Innovation & Extension through seminars and writing competitions. By offering platforms for self-expression, it aids Student Support & Progression. The society also promotes Institutional Values such as inclusivity, cultural sensitivity, and ethical communication, aligning with NAAC's vision of holistic student development and quality education.

The Literary Society of Loreto College is one of the oldest and most esteemed societies of the institution. Committed to inculcating a love for literature across multiple languages, the Literary Society of Loreto College, Kolkata, is a vibrant and inclusive community that celebrates the rich diversity of languages and cultures through its dynamic and engaging events. We aim to create a space for all students where they can express their creativity through expressions unheard to the world in varied languages.EXPRESSIONS, a journal that brings together, the varied literary as well as artistic talents of students of the college into a single publication, is edited by the Literary Society,along with the Monthly Wall Magazine. The association also organizes the Inter-Collegiate Loreto Shield Invitation Quiz and the Ashoke Chatterjee Memorial Essay Writing Competition (in Bengali and English). The College Fest, SAMAGAM, also features a creative writing competition and the Amal Ghatak Memorial Quiz over a two-day span,wherein several prestigious universities take part and is conducted by several esteemed quizmasters. As a college society, we not only aim to nurture literary talents but also create a sanctuary for all students to speak their minds.
