COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Loreto College Kolkata has always upheld its commitment to education rooted in compassion, justice, and social responsibility. The Community Engagement Programme, coordinated under a dedicated Service Learning Coordinator, is a significant step towards integrating academic learning with hands-on community involvement. This initiative enables students to apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges, cultivating both social awareness and personal growth.

Through a wide range of activities such as health awareness campaigns, teaching programs for underprivileged children, and skill training initiatives in rural areas, the programme seeks to create tangible social impact. Students actively participate in rural outreach efforts, conduct awareness sessions, and facilitate livelihood-based training such as paper bag making-equipping communities with tools for sustainable development.

The programme is further enriched through strong institutional linkages with a diverse range of NGOs and organisations including Ankur Kala, CRY, CINI, Bhumi, Akshar, IICP, Teach for India, and the Indian Autism Centre, among others. These partnerships allow students to engage meaningfully with sectors like education, disability rights, child welfare, women's empowerment, and public health. Collaborations with institutes such as the Institute of Hotel Management, Tech Mahindra Foundation, and Jayprakash Institute of Social Change provide exposure to professional training and development models.

The core philosophy behind the programme is to foster reciprocal learning—where students gain critical insights into social realities while contributing to positive change. It reinforces values of empathy, equity, and service, preparing students to become responsible, ethical citizens and future leaders. As society navigates complex challenges, such community-based engagement remains vital in bridging educational institutions and the communities they aim to serve. Through this initiative, Loreto College reaffirms its vision of education as a transformative and inclusive force for the greater good.
