Celebrating National Library Week: Readers' Meet 2025



The Library Society and the Literary Society of Loreto College, Kolkata, in collaboration with Virasat Art Publication, organized "Tales Beyond Barriers: A Multilingual Readers' Meet" on November 20, 2025, in observance of National Library Week. Attended by students from across the B.Ed, PG, and UG departments, the event also featured a small book exhibition showcasing works by various contemporary authors.

The programme commenced with an introductory address by Dr. Sanghita Sanyal. In her presentation, Dr. Bonny Ghosh emphasized the importance of libraries in the lives of students, and stated the significance of Library Week. Mr. Rajorshi Patranabis, Ms. Saheli Mitra, and Ms. Soumita Mitra were the judges for the book review competition which was moderated by Ms. Rituparna Khan, one of the editors and coordinator of Virasat Publication.

The chief segment of the event, the book reviewing contest, featured students presenting self-written reviews of books that had personally influenced or impacted them. The session was both engaging and insightful, and enabled the audience to discover new literary works and explore different perspectives. Anushka Mukherjee (UG Semester V) bagged the first position for her review of Cecelia Ahern's Flawed while Rupanjana Ghosh (PG Semester III) earned the second position for her review of Heaven by Mieko Kawakami. Mohona Maiti (PG Semester I) and Rose Mandal (B.Ed Semester I) were jointly placed in the third position. The winners were presented with awards and selected publications and all the contestants received certificates and mementos for participation.
