Essay Writing Competitions Organized for the Ashoke Chatterjee Memorial Prize and the Ratanlal Goenka Book Prize
The Literary Society of Loreto College, Kolkata, organized Essay Writing Competitions for the Ashoke Chatterjee Memorial Prize and the Ratanlal Goenka Book Prize in English and Bengali, and in Hindi, respectively, on November 28, 2025. The dual contests were open to the undergraduate students of Loreto College, across all departments.
For the English category, Tirna Sengupta (Semester-III, Department of English) bagged first place, while Rudrani Purkayastha (Semester-I, Department of Psychology) was declared winner for the Bengali segment. Dr. Sreemoyee Banerjee, respected judge for the Bengali Essay Writing Competition, commented, "At a time when the inclination to write in Bengali is steadily declining among college students, I've been pleasantly surprised to witness participants of the Creative Writing Competition organized by the Literary Society of Loreto College engage so enthusiastically in Bengali essay writing and express their thoughts with such fluency and spontaneity. It has been a pleasure to be associated with this effort, and I'm abundantly grateful."
The winning participants were presented with certificates and prizes at the Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony, held on Saturday December 13, 2025.
