Value-Added Course: Life Skills Workshop (2025)

The Centre for Life Skills at Loreto College organized a Value-Added Course on Life Skills for the B.Ed. Department on 26 November 2025, offering teacher-trainees an opportunity to strengthen their emotional, cognitive, and reflective capacities. The workshop, conducted from 1:15 p.m. to 3:30p.m., aimed to enhance holistic development and professional preparedness by introducing participants to the ten core life skills essential in the teaching profession.

The first session, led by Professor Nayanika Saha, focused on emotional life skills such as Empathy, Decision Making, Coping with Stress, and Coping with Emotions. Through interactive discussions and reflective exercises, students explored the significance of emotional understanding in interpersonal situations. Professor Saha's facilitative approach and personal insights helped participants connect theoretical concepts with real-life experiences, reinforcing emotional intelligence as a cornerstone of effective teaching.

In the second session, Professor Tania Mondal guided students through cognitive skills including Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, Effective Communication, and Problem Solving. Participants engaged in collaborative activities that encouraged them to analyse situations objectively, think innovatively, and communicate clearly. The session highlighted the importance of fostering inquiry and creativity, both as learners and future educators.

The concluding session, conducted by Dr. Suparna Ghosh, centred on Self-Awareness through a guided meditative exercise. This reflective practice enabled students to explore their emotional patterns and reconnect with their inner sense of curiosity and clarity.

Overall, the workshop emphasized that life skills are interconnected abilities that support personal resilience, professional growth, and nurturing classroom environments.
