Human Rights Day 2025
The Department of Human Rights, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, organized a Human Rights Day Programme on 10 December 2025 in the occasion of International Human Rights Day. The programme was designed to promote awareness of basic human rights and constitutional values among students and teachers of the institution.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Senior Professors Dr. Sabiha Sethwala, Suparna Ghosh, and Sayoni Choudhuri Patra. The inaugural session highlighted the importance of Human Rights Day and emphasized the relevance of human rights education in everyday social and academic life.
A total of 97 participants registered for the programme. The Human Rights Awareness session focused on basic human rights, Fundamental Rights and civic responsibilities. The session aimed to make participants aware of rights-related issues through simple explanations and real-life contexts. The programme was open to all students, teachers and staff members of the institution.
A Debate Competition was conducted as part of the programme. Five teams participated in the debate. Each team consisted of two participants. The debate provided a platform for students to express their views on human rights related issues and to engage in structured argumentation. The competition was judged by Sayoni Choudhuri Patra, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, Loreto College. One Best Team award was given. One Best Speaker for the motion and one Best Speaker against the motion were awarded based on clarity, content, and presentation.
A Quiz Competition was also organized on the theme Basic Human Rights and Fundamental Rights. Six teams participated in the quiz. Each team consisted of three students. The quiz tested participants’ knowledge of constitutional provisions, international human rights principles, and general awareness of rights and duties.
Students of Semester 3, Department of Human Rights, volunteered actively for the programme. The student volunteers assisted in registration, coordination of events, and overall management of the programme. Their involvement contributed to the smooth conduct of the event and provided them with practical exposure to academic and organizational responsibilities.
The Human Rights Day programme successfully enhanced awareness, participation, and critical engagement with human rights issues among the academic community. The event reinforced the importance of human rights education and collective responsibility within the institution.
