Mind Your Bid: Psychology Society
The Psychology Society of Loreto College, Kolkata organised Mind Your Bid, an interactive mock-auction event, on 4th December 2025 in Room 220 of the college. Designed to promote experiential learning, innovation, and skill development among students, the programme aimed to blend creativity with psychological insight by providing a platform to apply principles of persuasion, decision-making, and strategic thinking in a practical and engaging format.
Participants, faculty members, and volunteers assembled at the venue as the event commenced with a warm welcome and the introduction of the esteemed judge, Ms. Pourabi Chaudhury, Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Professor at the Institute of Psychiatry - Centre of Excellence. A brief felicitation ceremony was held to honour her presence, fostering an environment of academic enrichment and interaction with professionals from the field. This was followed by the introduction of the auctioneer, Ms. Ayushi Nandi, whose clarity and enthusiasm ensured the smooth conduct of the event while encouraging active student participation.
The event consisted of two rounds. The Pitch Round required teams to present their products using innovative marketing strategies grounded in psychological concepts, thereby enhancing communication skills, critical thinking, and creative expression. This was followed by the Auction Round, where teams bid competitively within their allotted capital, applying analytical reasoning, decision-making skills, and strategic planning in real-time scenarios. Students from eight colleges participated, contributing to a lively, Intellectually stimulating atmosphere that promoted inter-collegiate interaction and collaborative learning.
The presentations showcased originality, teamwork, and a thoughtful application of psychological principles, aligning with the objective of bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world relevance. The event concluded with the Prize Distribution Ceremony, where The Bhawanipur Education Society College (Bakshish Singh and Devansh Kapoor) emerged as winners, followed by Bethune College (Khusbu Zaman and Vidhushi Kedia) as runners-up.
Mind Your Bid aligned with NAAC objectives by promoting student-centric and experiential learning through the practical application of psychological concepts such as persuasion, decision-making, and strategic thinking. The event enhanced critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and leadership skills while encouraging ethical awareness of consumer behaviour. It also fostered inter-collegiate interaction and academic enrichment, contributing to holistic development and quality enhancement in higher education.
In her address, Ms. Chaudhury emphasised the importance of extending psychological understanding beyond academic boundaries and encouraged students to critically examine consumer behaviour, persuasion, and ethical decision-making. Mind Your Bid thus emerged as a meaningful and enriching initiative that strengthened students' practical competencies, promoted inclusive participation, and reinforced the Psychology Society's commitment to holistic education and quality enhancement within the college community.
