Alumnae Lecture Series 2 "From Campus to Career: Alumnae Talks in Psychology" titled "Assertiveness as a Catalyst for Change"
Asmita Khan of the 2019 Batch is a Clinical Psychologist trained in assessment, diagnosis, and therapeutic interventions. Her M.Phil dissertation explored the efficacy of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) amongst aspiring professional actors in West Bengal. She aims to integrate drama and theatre as innovative therapeutic tools to support individuals experiencing psychological distress. The session conducted by her focused on assertiveness, explained in a very broad, clear, and descriptive manner. She shared real-life examples and practical experiences, making the concept easy to understand and relatable.
Students gained a deeper understanding of assertive communication, self-expression, and setting healthy boundaries.The session helped students differentiate between assertiveness, aggression, and passiveness. It was highly interactive and engaging, encouraging students to reflect on their own behavior and responses.
The learnings from the session are practical and applicable in day-to-day life, including academics, relationships, and professional settings. Overall, the session was informative, motivating, and impactful for all the students. Students would greatly welcome more such alumni sessions, as they provide valuable guidance, real-world insights, and experiential learning beyond textbooks.
