Memorial Meeting for Sister Maeve Hughes

On 15th November 2025, the Loreto College Alumnae Association organised a Memorial for the recently departed Sister Maeve Hughes, who had been Principal of Loreto College from 1975 to 1988. Held in the Sister Maeve Hughes Seminar Room in the College, the Memorial was a wonderful opportunity for the former teachers and students of the College to remember the significant years of Sister Meave's leadership and the person she was.

The Memorial was opened by Teacher-in-Charge, Dr. Sr. A. Nirmala who led the audience in prayer and remembrance. Several current and former teachers and pupils read passages from Christian, Buddhist, Islamic, Hindu, Zoroastrian, Sikh scriptures and current pupils of the college sang hymns for Sister Maeve in Bengali and Santhali. Ms. Ingrid Rozario from the College Office, sang an Irish hymn in English.

There was a video presentation on Sister Maeve's life and academic works, including her time in Ranchi, which was a followed by messages from past pupils of Sister Maeve who were unable to attend in person. A few former teachers of the college who had served under Sister Maeve spoke fondly in remembrance about her and shared many stories.
