An Author's Afternoon - Prabha Khaitan Foundation Programme

On August 22, 2025, the Prabha Khaitan Foundation hosted 'An Author's Afternoon' where Dr, Saptarshi Mallick, an eminent author and a renowned scholar discussed about his latest book Connecting Spaces: Travelogues and Letters of Lady Abala Bose. The session was attended by 5 students from our college.

In this evening of deep discussions, interesting insights and powerful perspectives, Dr. Mallick whose research interests include women's writing and translational studies, made the audience wander through the intellectual landscape of Abala Bose's creative laboratory as reflected in her letters and travelogues. The conversation was moderated by Dr. Kaberi Chatterjee who engaged with Dr. Mallick in this thought-provoking discussion on Lady Bose. Dr. Mallick read excerpts from his book highlighting how Lady Bose's ideas were remarkably ahead of her time. He shared how his profound interest in archives was the driving force behind his exploration of the history of colonial Bengal and unearthing of many unknown facts. Her letters reveal a close bond with Rabindranath Tagore, her respect for Jagadish Chandra Bose and a keen awareness of the socio-cultural currents of her time.

The session ended on a thoughtful note with the author, Dr. Mallick, gifting signed copies of his book to the guests present.
