Library Orientation for First Semester Students 2025-2026

During every academic session, the Central Library in association with the Library Society conducts Deeksharambh: Orientation Programme for newly admitted First semester Under Graduate students, with the primary aim of introducing them to the library's resources, services, and facilities. For the academic year 2025-2026, the orientation for Under Graduate students was held on August 22, 2025. This session proved highly beneficial in helping students access the library from the very beginning of their academic journey. It enhances their ability to retrieve information effectively and builds their confidence in undertaking academic and research work. The orientation is typically organized within the first two to three weeks of the commencement of the academic session.

The program featured a lecture-cum-demonstration introducing students to the library's resources, services, rules, and staff, along with an explanation of the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system of arrangement, evaluation of web resources, and the ethical use of information. A live demonstration was also conducted on how to use the library catalogue and databases in house and also remotely. Furthermore, students were introduced to the activities organized by the Library Society, including book clubs, visits to notable libraries in the city, and celebrations of National Library Week and International Mother Language Day. An interactive Q&A session provided students with an opportunity to clarify their doubts regarding the effective use of library services.
