Special Session on Pedagogical Approaches in the Higher Education Scenario
On September 2, 2025, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Loreto College, Kolkata, in collaboration with Kristu Jayanti (deemed to be University), Bengaluru, organized a special session on Best Practices in Pedagogical Approaches in the Higher Education Scenario. This virtual session was specially organized for the faculty members of Loreto College. The programme was divided into three separate sessions:
The first Technical Session was by Dr. D. Joseph Charles Tamilmaran, Associate Professor and Head, School of Management, Kristu Jayanti School of Management. He spoke on Outcome-Based Pedagogical Approaches for Humanities and Social Sciences. The presentation highlighted how the teacher-facilitators in the HEIs can align teaching to cater to the Higher Order Thinking Skills of students (HOTS) and also discussed various methodologies of OBE which would be facilitate engagement with curriculum, justify appropriate pedagogy and assessment techniques.
The second Technical Session was on The Use of AI in Humanities and Social Sciences, conducted by Prof. Mary Jacob, Associate Director, Office of Human Resources, Kristu Jayanti (deemed to be University). She discussed the significance of using technology in Learning and Teaching scenario, emphasizing on how LLMs, Computational Literary Analysis can supplement effective teaching. She also provided a plethora of useful AI tools and apps that can help new-age HEI teachers to develop content, pedagogy as well as assessment techniques.
The final session was on Experiential/Field-Based Learning Approaches in Humanities and Social Sciences, conducted by Prof. Ramya B. Senthil, Director, IQAC, Kristu Jayanti (deemed to be University). She explained what is Experiential Learning with various examples and how experiential learning can be documented by using different techniques to align with the new system of NAAC Metrics.
All the three sessions were informative, interactive and enlightening for the target audience who later deliberated at length, under the guidance of the teacher-in-charge of Loreto College, Sr. Dr. A Nirmala, on the diverse ways forward to utilize the knowledge acquired from the different sessions.
