Placement Cell Orientation Programme
As a first-semester student stepping into college life, one of the most insightful experiences so far has been attending the Placement Cell Orientation Programme at Loreto College on August 27, 2025. The session began with an introduction by Ms. Tania Mondal and Dr. Suranjana Mitra, who gave us a detailed overview of the Placement Cell and its role in guiding students toward professional opportunities. They walked us through the Placement Cell page on the college website, emphasizing how it functions as a resource hub for students. The vision and mission statement of the Placement Cell was highlighted, reminding us that the primary goal of the Cell is to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements while ensuring holistic student development. The programme also featured an enlightening talk by our resource person Mr. Mario Martin Louis, Placement and Training Officer of St. Xavier's University, Kolkata who shared his professional journey and practical advice for students preparing for their future careers.
His talk went beyond the technical aspects of placements and delved into the life skills and perspectives required to succeed in today's professional world. He emphasized the need to explore varied options and to embrace every opportunity that adds to our knowledge and skill set. One of his strongest pieces of advice was to focus on linguistic skills-to not only refine fluency in languages we already know but to keep ourselves open to learning new ones. He explained how overcoming linguistic barriers can help us connect with people from diverse cultures and significantly improve our communication abilities.
Mr. Louis also spoke about the importance of maintaining a professional presence on social media, highlighting how building networks early on can later create pathways to unexpected opportunities. He encouraged us to link different disciplines in our careers, thereby making ourselves versatile and adaptable. Equally motivating was his reminder that we should pursue areas we are genuinely passionate about, for that is where true excellence lies. He strongly recommended taking up internships, not merely as resume-builders but as real-world learning experiences that sharpen our skills and prepare us for future responsibilities.
The session was highly engaging and insightful. It ended with an interactive session.
