Tagore's Vision in Action: Community Engagement and Contemporary Education
On August 8, 2025, the NSS Unit of Loreto College, Kolkata organized a memorable event to welcome Mr. Harshvardhan Neotia, a respected industrialist and philanthropist, for an interactive session with the students. As part of the day's special initiative, a group of children from Boinchtala village were invited to the college, demonstrating the unit's ongoing commitment to outreach and inclusion.
The children arrived at around 1:15 PM with their supervisors and were warmly greeted by NSS volunteers. They enjoyed a hearty lunch in the college canteen. After lunch, the children were guided to the Concert Hall, where the event began with the arrival of Mr. Neotia. A highlight of the afternoon was the wonderful performance by the children from Boinchtala, who sang and danced with contagious energy and joy. Their performance captured the hearts of everyone present, earning enthusiastic applause and appreciation. The experience of performing in a college setting and interacting with students provided the children with a unique and uplifting experience.
Events like this are vital for building connections between urban institutions and rural communities. Introducing village children to such environments can expand their perspectives, inspire aspirations, and boost their confidence. Mr. Neotia's words of encouragement and focus on the importance of education will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on them. The NSS Unit of Loreto College will continue with such initiatives in the future.
