Seminar on NAAC Criterion 9: Understanding Research and Innovation

The seminar on NAAC Criterion 9: Understanding Research and Innovation was organised by Team Criterion 9 in collaboration with the IQAC of Loreto College on August 9, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in online mode. The objective was to clarify the metrics and sub-criteria of Criterion 9, address faculty queries, and streamline reporting to the IQAC Steering Committee.

Dr. Dinaz R. Jeejeebhoy, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, opened the session with an overview of Criterion 9, explaining its structure and significance. This was followed by Dr. Suman Chatterjee, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography, who discussed strategies to enhance and accelerate impactful research. He highlighted seven key approaches: sensitisation and orientation, exposure to research opportunities, fostering collaborations, utilising advanced tools, understanding the publication process, and optimising infrastructure and library resources.

Dr. Jeejeebhoy then detailed the metrics on research and publications, along with the quantitative achievements of faculty members. Dr. Soumya Dutta, Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, elaborated on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), provisions for PhD supervision, and research collaborations.

An interactive discussion followed, during which Dr. Satyabrota Kundu, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, addressed queries on PhD supervision, sharing practices from other institutions and potential challenges. Questions on the maturity-based graded accreditation system, cycle duration, and tenure were also discussed. The Teacher-in-Charge, Dr. Sister A. Nirmala, encouraged faculty to prepare research proposals and concept notes to secure external grants.

The seminar concluded with constructive feedback and attribute-wise suggestions on the metrics. It served as an effective platform for knowledge sharing, fostering collaboration, and reinforcing the college’s commitment to research and innovation.
