First Year Orientation Programme
The Freshers' Orientation Programme for the academic session 2025-26 was conducted on Monday, 4th August 2025, at Loreto College, Kolkata. The event commenced with the AICUF Prayer Service , followed by the auspicious inaugural lamp lighting ceremony, symbolizing the illumination of knowledge and new beginnings. Participating in this significant moment were Ms. A. Nirmala, Teacher-in-Charge; Sister Powlin, Community Leader; Dr. A. Dasgupta, IQAC Coordinator; Ms. Ruchika Majumdar, student council representative; Ms. Subhangi Guha, first year Psychology major.
The programme began with warm addresses from Sister Nirmala and Sister Powlin, both extending a hearty welcome to the freshers and encouraging them to embrace the esteemed values and opportunities upheld by Loreto College. Their speeches set an inspiring tone for the academic journey ahead.
An introduction of the Heads of Departments (HODs) provided the students with a comprehensive overview of the leadership across various disciplines. This was followed by a detailed presentation on the College's structure Dr. Subhasree Basu and Mrs. Sayoni Choudhuri Patra, including CCF, 2022 Regulation, co-curricular opportunities, research initiatives, Internship Programme, and community service programmes. The presentation offered valuable insights into the academic and holistic framework of the institution.
Following the formal orientation, an informal segment commenced with a students' orientation session led by members of the student council. A short video montage provided a glimpse into campus life, capturing the vibrant and inclusive spirit of the college community.
The session continued with a presentation of rules and guidelines to help students navigate their new environment responsibly. A question-and-answer session allowed freshers to clarify doubts and express concerns. Sister Nirmala engaged with the students, offering practical and heartfelt advice, urging them to seize every opportunity provided by the institution and to maintain commitment and compassion in their college life.
The orientation concluded formally with students being guided to their respective departmental classrooms for departmental orientation sessions, where they were acquainted with specific expectations and academic plans tailored to their chosen fields.
