Skill Enhancement Session on Facilitation, Conflict Resolution, and Negotiation Skills (Future Fit 2.0)

As part of a skill development initiative, an interactive session on Facilitation Skills was conducted for Semester VI students on March 26, 2025. The first part of the session was conducted by Dr. Satyabrota Kundu, Dr. Mainak Bhattacharya, and Ms. Tania Mondal from Loreto College. It comprised two well-structured activities designed to provide students with hands-on experience in teamwork, communication, and structured problem-solving. The first activity, "Facilitate to Innovate: The Zoo Challenge," focused on developing non-verbal communication and team coordination as students silently formed groups based on animal chits using only gestures and body language. The second, "The Fishbone Challenge", introduced students to the Ishikawa (Fishbone) Diagram to help identify the root causes of common issues and brainstorm structured solutions collaboratively. These activities promoted critical thinking, leadership, and facilitation skills through experiential learning.

The second half of the session was facilitated by Dr. Sriparna Dutta, Associate Professor of English at Khudiram Bose Central College. Her segment focused on Conflict Resolution and Negotiation Skills, where students explored the nature of conflict, its causes, and strategies for resolving it effectively. Through interactive discussions and a role-play activity, students learned how to manage emotions, apply mediation techniques, and engage in conflict resolution scenarios. This was followed by an engaging segment on negotiation, covering key principles such as the win-win approach, BATNA (Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement), and persuasive strategies for handling difficult conversations. A negotiation simulation further allowed students to apply these concepts in practical, real-life situations.

A total of 18 girls participated actively in the session. The programme concluded with a reflection exercise, where students identified and shared the key facilitation or conflict-handling skill they had developed. The initiative successfully enriched the participants' interpersonal, problem-solving, and leadership capabilities.
