Orientation Session on IBM SkillsBuild Program by Edunet Foundation
The Placement Cell of Loreto College, Kolkata in collaboration with Edunet Foundation, successfully organized an Orientation Session on the IBM SkillsBuild Program on 10th July 2025 in two separate time slots: from 11:00 AM to 11:50 a.m. for Semester 4 students, and from 12:00 noon to 12:50 p.m. for Semester 2 students, in the College Auditorium.
The session commenced with a welcome speech and felicitation of the resource person, Mr. Deepneel Majumdar, the Master Trainer, by student representatives. Mr. Majumdar began by describing the orientation as a gateway that would take students through the corporate journey, helping them gain insights into real-world skill requirements and career pathways.
He introduced the students to the Edunet Foundation, an organization actively involved in upskilling and enabling learners across India, stating that it has already impacted over 650,000 learners. He then gave a detailed overview of the IBM SkillsBuild platform , explaining that it is part of a CSR initiative by IBM, and offers free, industry-recognized courses from major technology companies such as Microsoft.
Mr. Majumdar emphasized that SkillsBuild for adult learners is designed specifically to support learners entering the workforce. He elaborated on the key features of the platform, including:
Free of cost courses
Lifetime access to learning materials
Courses focused on skills essential for entry-level jobs
Internship and project-based learning opportunities
Access to 10,000+ self-paced courses
He explained how learners can register on the platform, access courses, complete modules at their own pace, and download IBM-certified certificates. These credentials are valuable for enhancing one's LinkedIn profile and improving professional visibility.A hands-on demonstration of the registration, course navigation, and certificate download process was provided, making the session interactive and practical.
After the demonstration, attendance was recorded, and a few students came forward to share their experiences and key takeaways from the workshop. They expressed enthusiasm about exploring the platform and acquiring new skills that would help in their academic and professional journey.
The session concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by a student representative , who expressed gratitude to Mr. Deepneel Majumdar, the Edunet and IBM, college authorities, and the Placement Cell for organizing such an insightful and empowering session.
The orientation was a significant step toward enabling students to gain industry-relevant skills and prepare themselves for future career opportunities through the IBM SkillsBuild platform.
