Student Paper Presentation organised by The Research and Development Cell, Loreto College



On May 13th, 2025, the Research and Development Cell of the Loreto College, Kolkata organised the presentation of research papers by students pursuing an Undergraduate degree. Four research groups from Semester 6 presented their papers from the Department of Psychology.

Group 1
A quantitative study on the usage of social media to cope with perceived stress by introverts and extraverts was presented by Sreshtha Chatterjee, Ritika Dutta, Chandraboli Majumdar and Aditi Mukherjee of third year and the research was conducted under the supervision of Mrs. Nayanika Saha and Dr. Dinaz R. Jeejeebhoy. By using standardised scales, the study revealed interesting patterns of social media usage by introverts, extraverts and ambiverts and further shed light on how social media is used by them to cope with stress.

Group 2:
A qualitative research study titled "Educators' Motivation, Coping Strategies, and Well-Being: An Investigative Study" was presented by Tanushua Goswami, Bhavya Pancholi, Shreya Janet Guha, and Anoushka Dutta. The research was conducted under the supervision of former faculty member Dr. Jhelum Podder. Through in-depth interviews and thematic analysis, the study offered valuable insights into the emotional and professional challenges faced by educators, highlighting how personal values, institutional support, and adaptive coping mechanisms play a crucial role in sustaining motivation and overall well-being.

Group 3:
The third group presented a paper on a psychometric scale assessing Artificial Intelligence Anxiety in the Indian cultural context called the Scale for Artificial Intelligence Anxiety (SAIA). The presenters were Diya Roy, Krittika Basak, Madhuparna Chatterjee and Sampoorna Sen of third year. The research was conducted under the supervision of former faculty member Ms. Shankhabela Mukherjee. The aim of the study was to help people deal with the various concerns that come with the pervasive use of AI, by developing a scale that would accurately measure Artificial Intelligence Anxiety.

Group 4
The last group presented a quantitative study on the attitude towards sexism of high school students from co-ed and single sex schools titled "The Impact of Exposure : Navigating Sexism in Co-Ed and Single Sex Schools". The presenters were: Chitralekha Pramanick, Atmaja Sen, Oishi Haldar, Samagrata Roy Choudhuri and Disha Shah of third year and the research was conducted under the supervision of Ms. Somali Mukherjee. Using structured questionnaires, data was collected from the high school students aged between 14 and 18 years ( focusing on classes IX to XII ) and thereafter analyzed to explore whether school background influences perceptions of sexist attitudes. The research revealed meaningful patterns that contribute to the understanding of gender socialization in educational contexts.

This marked an opportune moment for students undertaking research at the undergraduate level, who were able to broaden their horizons and investigate new avenues of knowledge. The students learned important skills that are hoped to lend further insight into their domain of interest.
