Bridging Barriers: A One Day Workshop on Interfaith Dialogue

In an increasingly polarized world, the importance of interfaith understanding and cross-cultural communication cannot be overstated. With this in mind, a one-day workshop titled Bridging Barriers: A One Day Workshop on Interfaith Dialogue was organized to foster empathy, inclusivity, and peaceful coexistence among future educators and professionals. The final year students of the B.Ed. Department and Post-Graduate (English) Department, participated in the workshop which was held in association with the N.S.S Unit of Loreto College on 23 May, 2025.

Facilitated by Ms. Sohini Jana (KAICIID International Fellow 2019) and Mr. Biswadeb Chakraborty (Regional Coordinator, United Religions Initiative), the first session encouraged participants to reflect on their internal biases, stereotypes, and assumptions. Activities were designed to encourage self-awareness, active listening, and openness to diverse perspectives. The second segment had two distinguished speakers, Ms. Urmi Chanda (Peace Advocate and Scholar of Interfaith Studies) and Prof. Andrew J. Boyd, Senior Programme Manager, KAICIID, sharing their perspectives on the role of interfaith dialogue in building peaceful, inclusive societies. They highlighted real-world applications of interfaith dialogue in conflict resolution, education, diplomacy, and community development. The discussions were followed by a Q&A session that enabled students to voice their thoughts and engage in reflective discussion.
