Workshop on Research Methodology in Psychology
The Research Cell of Loreto College, Kolkata in collaboration with the Department of Psychology (PG) organised a workshop on Research Methodology for students of Semester II (PG and UG) and on 15th May, 2025.
The workshop was conducted by Dr. Sreemoyee Tarafder, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, West Bengal State University, Barasat. The session, held from 9 am to 10:45 am, offered valuable insights into the multifaceted nature of research, the systematic and objective approach required to conduct it effectively. The Semester-II students of the department were acquainted with the fundamentals of research while the Postgraduate students were advised upon the methodology and tools of research.
The resource person emphasised on a broad spectrum of possible research areas, spanning topics from everyday life to intricate psycho-social challenges. Dr. Tarafder navigated the whole research process step by step from identifying the research topic and review of literature to the identification of limitations as well as citation of references. She also informed the students the process of identifying gaps in pre-existing literature. Information databases were also recommended to the students for accessing credible data related to their research topics. Ethical considerations during research were also briefly discussed during the workshop.
The workshop undoubtedly laid a strong foundation of research methodology among the students. Dr. Tarafder provided advice to students regarding their own ideas of research. She also guided the students on how to navigate the current research scenario. This session while being enlightening and informative, instilled a renewed enthusiasm among the students for future research endeavours.
