Workshop on Research Methodology in Economics



On May 13, 2025 Loreto College Research Cell in collaboration with the Department of Economics of Loreto College, Kolkata organised a workshop on Research Methodology for the students of semester -II.

The session was grace by by Dr Anupa (Sen) Ghosh, Associate Professor, Department of Economics of The Bhawanipur Gujarati Education Society College as the sole resource person. It was a one hour session from 11:45-12:45 pm which gave us deep insights into the different facets of research and the steps to conduct it in a systematic and objective manner. The students of the semester- II of the department introduced to the basic rubrics of research in what remains as a crucial part of the newly launched CCF(Curriculum and Credit Framework) curriculum, vide NEP 2020. Besides covering aspects like empirical and theoretical research, the resource person highlighted a plethora of potential research avenues, related with anything from everyday life to complex societal issues. That apart , students could learn much about the importance of empirics in assimilation of various economic theories taught in textual context at the curricular level and further, the ways to use statistical tools and economic intuition to frame hypotheses, validate them, analyse and recommend policies was highlighted by her. Lastly, the ethical considerations that must be kept in mind whenever we conduct research in the future were emphasized.

Overall, the program was an thoroughly engaging, interactive and an enriching experience for all of those attended, in what will invariably help them to pursue perspective -based research endeavors in future, much as they forward to more such sessions that will equip them with skills necessary to excel beyond academics and contribute towards social progress.
