Workshop on Indian Knowledge System
On May 6, 2025, the Indian Knowledge System Initiatives Committee, Loreto College, organised a one-day workshop on the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) at Loreto College, Kolkata, to promote awareness and understanding of India’s rich intellectual traditions and their contemporary relevance.
The workshop commenced with a formal inauguration by lighting the lamp, followed by a welcome address by the IQAC Coordinator, Dr. Amrita Dasgupta, and an inaugural address by the Teacher-in-Charge, Sister. Dr A. Nirmala. The chief guest of the workshop, Dr Tilak Chatterjee, Principal Bankim Sardar College, emphasised the significance of integrating the Indian Knowledge System into modern education to foster holistic learning and cultural awareness. The master trainer on Indian Knowledge System, Dr Nilendu Chatterjee, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Bankim Sardar College, highlighted the contributions of ancient India in fields such as mathematics, astronomy, medicine, linguistics, and environmental science.
The workshop featured parallel interactive sessions and presentations by Dr Tilak Chatterjee and Dr Nilendu Chatterjee. Topics covered included Vedic Mathematics and its Applications, Ayurveda: Principles and Practice, Ancient Indian Philosophy and Logic, Architecture and Vāstu Shastra and Sanskrit as a Scientific Language. Participants included faculty members from various colleges and students from various disciplines. The sessions encouraged active discussion and engagement, offering participants insights into how ancient Indian knowledge can complement modern scientific approaches.
The workshop concluded with a valedictory session where participants shared their feedback and learning experiences. Overall, the workshop proved to be a meaningful platform for knowledge sharing, fostering a greater appreciation for India’s intellectual and cultural heritage.
