Skill Development Programme at Boinchtala Village
On April 12, 2025, Loreto College, Kolkata, in collaboration with the NGO Ankur Kala, organised a skill development training programme at Boinchtala Village. It was a one-day programme focusing primarily on the female population. The objective of the programme was to help them generate income and employment opportunities through small-scale production with basic raw materials.
Ankur Kala with their master trainer provided training to the village women on making paper bags of all sizes, using daily newspapers which are easily available to them. The women of the village learnt it very quickly and were able to engage in live demonstrations.
The collaborative activity not only helped them to learn skills but also to generate income during their free time at home. The women of the village showed interest in learning new skills such as toy making, woollen bags, batik, and bandhani.
Students from Loreto College also participated in the programme and assisted the women in learning the new skill. The programme not only influenced the women but also aroused interest in community participation among students.
On May 3, another training session was conducted at Boinchtala in collaboration with Ankur Kala for examining the skill they had learnt. Loreto College issued certificates of participation to the trainees and delivered them after completion of the skill development training.
