Mindscapes: Charting Careers in Psychology
The seminar Mindscapes: Charting Careers in Psychology, organised by the Career Counselling Cell in collaboration with the PG Department of Psychology, held on 24 November 2025, offered an enriching and motivating exploration of diverse career pathways within the field. The session was led by Dr. Ananya Mondal, Assistant Professor of Psychology at Asutosh College whose academic and research experience added depth and clarity to the discussion.
The primary aim of the seminar was to help students understand the rapidly expanding landscape of psychological careers, along with the competencies required to excel in each domain. Dr. Mondal highlighted key areas such as cognitive psychology, deception detection, research, experiment psychology, and mental health practice, illustrating how interdisciplinary training and ongoing skill development shape professional growth. Her emphasis on building research literacy, strengthening analytical thinking, and engaging in internships encouraged students to take a more strategic approach to career planning.
A particularly valuable component of the talk was her discussion on the real-world application of psychological principles, including how emerging fields such as media psychology, military psychology, human-machine interaction, and neuropsychology are creating new avenues for young professionals. Students gained clarity on the importance of higher education, ethical practice, and evidence-based approaches, as well as the need to align personal strengths with long-term career goals.
Overall, the seminar was highly insightful and reflective. It not only expanded students' understanding of psychology's many possibilities but also inspired them to approach their academic journey with greater intention and curiosity. The session successfully fulfilled its objective of guiding PG students and UG Semester 5 students and toward informed, meaningful, and future-ready career choices in psychology.
