Plantation Drive observing Van Mahotsav 2025

The W.E. Nature Society of Loreto College, Kolkata, in collaboration with the Department of Economics, observed Van Mahotsav on 20th July 2025. Themed "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam - A Step Towards a Greener Tomorrow", the initiative aimed at fostering environmental consciousness and encouraging active community participation in afforestation efforts.

The event began with Ma'am Debjani and a volunteer from Loreto college, Meghamala Pandey collecting the saplings from Eden's Udayan Nursery on 16.07.25.

The drive was carried out on 20.07.25 at 9:30 A.M. with volunteers carefully boarding saplings into the college bus. The team, comprising student volunteers and faculty members, departed from college at 10:30 A.M. and reached the plantation site at Paschim Barisha by 12:00 noon.

The plantation drive commenced promptly at 12:00 P.M. and continued till 1:30 P.M. It was heartening to witness the enthusiastic participation of local villagers and the presence of local heads and representatives of Paschim Barisha. Their involvement not only added warmth to the occasion but also emphasized the importance of collective environmental responsibility.

The local community extended generous hospitality by providing refreshments and a traditional meal, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and mutual appreciation. The shared experience underlined the strength of grassroots environmental action and the joy of working together for a greener future.

The team concluded the visit and began the return journey to college soon after, carrying back not just the satisfaction of a successful plantation drive but also the enriching interactions with the local community.

The event stood as a testament to Loreto College's enduring commitment to sustainability and the ethos of community-driven environmental action.
