Group presentations were made by the students of Semester 2 History Major on the theme of 'FOLK AND TRIBAL FESTIVALS'. This peer teaching session was conducted on 07/07/2025 and on 14/07/2025. Each group explored unique cultural festivals that highlights India’s vibrant traditions and indigenous identities.
This presentation successfully created awareness regarding India's diverse folk and traditions, focusing on their cultural significance, oral tradition, community involvement and symbolic values. The students through group work researched in detail and designed their respective PPT Presentations which were used by them to present the theme before their peers. Each group demonstrated a deep understanding of their topic by highlighting rituals, songs, dances, folklore, and the current relevance of the festivals in modern society.
Folk and tribal festivals of India are living traditions that preserve the oral history, eco-spiritual values, and community aesthetics of indigenous groups. These celebrations remain largely non-commercial and reflect deep-rooted ties between human life, nature, and cultural memory. Participating in this peer teaching session on tribal and folk festivals helped students gain a deeper understanding of India's vast and diverse cultural heritage. It allowed them to explore unique customs, rituals, and traditions that are often overlooked in mainstream narratives. Through research, teamwork, and creative expression, students learnt about the ecological, spiritual, and social values embedded in these festivals. They could better appreciate the oral traditions, music, dances, and symbolism of indigenous communities.
This activity helped to promote cultural sensitivity, awareness of regional diversity, and the importance of preserving intangible heritage in a rapidly changing world. The activity also encouraged teamwork, creativity, and cultural awareness, helping us appreciate the significance of oral traditions, rituals, and seasonal celebrations. Overall, this experience enriched our knowledge, enhanced our presentation skills, and inspired us to respect and preserve the unique cultural expressions that continue to shape India's heritage.
