Special Lecture on the Occasion of World Hindi Day



The department of Hindi, Loreto College, Kolkata, in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell, organised a special lecture on the occasion of World Hindi Day on January 10, 2025. The lecture was focused on great Hindi Poet Nagarjuna and his role in making Hindi a global language. The event began with a welcome note by Sr. Dr. A. Nirmala, Teacher-in-Charge, Loreto College, followed by the formal felicitation of the speaker Prof. Kiran Singh. In her welcome note Sr. Dr. A. Nirmala explained the importance of Hindi in a multilingual country and in global scenario. She encouraged students to learn Hindi and as many languages as they can. A brief history of World Hindi Day was read by the students. Some students presented a collage of Hindi poems about the nature and importance Hindi.

In her special lecture, Prof Kiran Singh talked about life and works of poet Nagarjuna. She discussed the role of Nagarjuna in making Hindi literature a literature of revolutionary masses and how Nagarjuna's writing made Hindi popular among non-Hindi readers too. She presented various examples from Nagarjuna's poetry and taught students the art of understanding poetry while appreciating the richness and simplicity of Hindi used in the poems.
