International Yoga Day Celebration
The Wellness Club, in collaboration with the Art and Craft Club of the Department of B.Ed., Loreto College, celebrated the International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2025 with vibrant spirit and collective enthusiasm. The event unfolded in the serene ambiance of our institution, bringing together students, faculty, and staff in a shared journey toward holistic well-being.
The program commenced with a warm welcome and an insightful introductory speech that set the tone for the day. This year's theme, "Yoga for One Earth, One Health," emphasized the deep connection between personal wellness and global harmony. It reminded us that yoga is not just a personal practice but a lifestyle rooted in sustainability, mindfulness, and compassion.
A ceremonial lighting of the lamp was performed with reverence by our esteemed Teacher-in-Charge, Dr. Sister A. Nirmala, alongside the Head of the B.Ed Department, Dr. Kaustuva Banerjee, symbolizing the dispelling of ignorance and the ushering in of knowledge and wellness.
The spiritual energy of the event was elevated with the chanting of the Shanti Mantra, resonating through the hall as both the audience and the participants joined in unison. This was followed by a series of stretching exercises, essential for warming up the body, improving circulation, and enhancing flexibility-an ideal preparation for the deeper yoga postures that followed.
One of the highlights of the session was the graceful performance of Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation), a complete yogic sequence that activates every part of the body and fosters mental clarity. It was followed by the calming practice of Bhramari Pranayama (Humming Bee Breath). This ancient breathing technique helped participants ease into a state of tranquility, offering benefits such as reduced anxiety, improved concentration, and even support for reproductive and auditory health.
In an innovative twist, the students presented a Rhythmic Pyramid Yoga Exercise to music. This segment showcased seven dynamic pyramid formations, symbolizing harmony, balance, and strength. The visual presentation was both captivating and energizing, demonstrating the creativity and dedication of the student participants.
The event concluded with an inspiring address by Dr. Sister Nirmala, who emphasized the need to embrace yoga as a daily practice. She spoke eloquently about yoga's timeless relevance, not just as a form of exercise but as a way of life that nurtures the body, mind, and soul.
The International Yoga Day celebration served as a beautiful reminder of our collective commitment to health, harmony, and inner peace. It was not only a display of physical postures but also a celebration of unity, mindfulness, and the shared journey towards holistic well-being.
