Alumni Lecture Series – I (Department of Education)



The Department of Education, Loreto College, organized the first session of the Alumni Lecture Series I on 30 October, 2025 for Semester-I and Semester-V students in the college Auditorium at 11:00 am. The total number of students participated in the Lecture was 34. The invited speaker for the session was Ms. Harrshita Murarka, who currently works with Children's and Families Social Worker with The City of Edinburgh Council, United Kingdom. Ms. Murarka, an accomplished alumna from the Batch of 2019, holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Edinburgh, UK.

Ms. Harrshita Murarka spoke on the topic "Emerging Career Opportunities in Social Work in the 21st Century", Ms. Murarka shared her enriching professional journey and shed light on the diverse and evolving landscape of social work. Currently based in Scotland, she has been actively engaged in child and family welfare for the past two years, overseeing the well-being of sixteen children placed under her supervision due to challenging family circumstances. She elaborated on her experiences of working with children from homes affected by parental substance abuse, imprisonment, and severe mental health issues, offering students a realistic and empathetic understanding of the profession.

During her talk, Ms. Murarka emphasized the expanding dimensions of social work in contemporary times, encompassing fields such as family welfare, community development, child protection, and mental health care. She highlighted the importance of informed course selection, hands-on training, and the development of emotional resilience as essential components in shaping a successful career in social work.

The lecture concluded with an engaging interactive session, where students and teachers of the department eagerly participated, asking insightful questions about Ms. Murarka's work and career trajectory. The event concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to the speaker for her valuable insights and inspiring presence.

The session proved to be both enlightening and motivating, encouraging students to explore social work as a meaningful and impactful professional path dedicated to service, empathy, and social transformation.
