Mary Ward Assembly

To celebrate the hard work, vision, and legacy of our founder Mary Ward, an assembly was conducted on January 30, 2024 by the AICUF Society of Loreto College, Kolkata, with Semester I students from different departments participating in the programme. Following Loreto tradition, the event began with a prayer and a hymn. The students were given an introduction on the Venerable Mary Ward, her early life, her journey, and her struggle to establish the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM) in 1609. This was followed by a dramatic performance inspired by the maxims and values of Mary Ward. It depicted how all Loreto institutions instil discipline, patience, integrity, and hard work in their students, and how the students carry these values with them into the outside world. The play concluded with the song “Lead Us on Mary Ward,” which was composed by Sr. Deirdre Brown for the 400th jubilee of the foundation of IBVM. The students also put up a meticulously detailed presentation on the vision, missionary work, and life of Mary Ward. The assembly concluded with the Loreto Anthem and a heartfelt speech by the Officiating Principal, Dr. Debika Guha.
