Pre-Placement Talk conducted by Teach for India

On March 11, 2024, a pre-placement talk by Teach for India was organised at Loreto College, Kolkata for the final-semester students of the Departments of B.Ed. and Masters in English. The session, conducted by Riiei Maia Khongwir, Branding, Partnership, and Sourcing Manager of Teach for India, aimed to inspire future educators and postgraduate students towards addressing crucial issues in the Indian education system such as poverty, educational inequality, gender gap, lack of teachers in government schools, and the poor education system in slum areas.

The talk began by urging the attendees to reflect on the areas that require more attention within the Indian education landscape. Khongwir emphasised the urgent need to understand the education crisis prevalent in India and the pivotal role that teachers can play in transforming this landscape. She elucidated the opportunities available for teachers through Teach for India, which offers a two-year full-time teaching fellowship in underserved English-medium classrooms across eight cities. This not only provides aspiring educators with a chance to make a significant impact but also offers competitive stipends and basic health insurance.

The Teach for India pre-placement talk was enlightening and motivating for the postgraduate students and teacher trainees of Loreto College. It provided insights into the urgent need for educational transformation in India and showcased Teach for India as a platform for budding educators to contribute meaningfully to society by offering quality educational opportunities to India’s most underprivileged children.
