VIVAAD 2022



The Debating Society of Loreto College, Kolkata organised the first edition of its national level debating competition- Vivaad on 26th March 2022. Students from 15 colleges/ universities from Kolkata, Delhi and Bangalore participated in the event.

The preliminary round was judged by two advocates of the Calcutta High Court - Ms. Ujjaini Chatterjee and Mr. Sayan Ganguly, . The motion for this round was - "This house believes that Social Media has been unjustly persecuted for the indiscretion of its users." 5 colleges qualified for the finals - Jadavpur University, Jindal Global University, Ramanujan College (DU), Presidency College, Mount Carmel College and Loreto College.

The final round was judged by an esteemed panel consisting of Mr. Pradeep Gooptu, Founder Trustee of the Calcutta Debating Circle; Mr. Shekhar Niyogi, Education and Career Consultant at Education Unlimited Inc.; and Ms. Gargi Chatterjea, Executive Director, Regulatory Affairs and Legal Division, CESC Ltd. The session was moderated by Ms. Natasa Aziz, a known face in the Kolkata Debating Circle. The motion for this round was - "This house believes that women in traditionally masculine roles do more harm than good to the Feminist cause."

Loreto College, represented by Tanushka Dutta and Neha Sen, emerged as the winners of the debate and the award for the Best Speaker for the motion was bagged by Tanushka Dutta.
Ramanujan College, Delhi University secured the second position for Vivaad 2022.

The debate was widely applauded and appreciated by all in attendance.
