Celebration of International Yoga Day

Yoga - Key To Wellness

The Department of B.Ed, Loreto College, Kolkata, presented a virtual programme on the occasion of International Yoga Day, celebrated on June 21, 2021. Prior to the performances of asanas by the B.Ed. trainees, pictures were displayed depicting the meaning of Yoga and the eight limbs of Yoga. The programme then proceeded with a teacher trainee introducing the title of the programme 'Key to Wellness' and explaining the derivation of the word Yoga, aims of Yoga, the origin and general benefits of Yoga. The introduction was followed by the demonstration of various yogasanas by the teacher trainees. The five asanas that were performed were Padmasana or Lotus pose, Bhujangasana or Cobra pose, Vrikshasana or Tree pose, Trikonasana or Triangle pose and Ustrasana or Camel pose. Each yogasana was performed in detail along with step by step description of the correct posture and technique. The benefits of each asana and precautions while performing them were explained in detail. The programme then proceeded with a B.Ed. trainee explaining the concept of Yoga in Bhagavad Gita and concluding the event by discussing the meaning and significance of yoga in everyday life as a Key to Wellness. The B.Ed. trainees expressed their gratitude to Sr.Christine Coutinho, Principal, Loreto College for her support and encouragement, to Dr.Debika Guha, Head, Department of B.Ed. for her guidance and motivation and Mrs. Prakriti Adhikari, teacher of Physical Education for helping the students to learn the true meaning of Yoga.
