Report on Inter-year Departmental Quiz Competition, 2021

On January 30, 2021, an Inter-year Quiz Competition, christened as ‘Ignition’, was organized by the Department of Economics. As an annual event of the department, this is the third year of the inter-year quiz competition. The event has become a mark of an initiative to expand the scope of learning experience for the students beyond the contour of classroom teaching-learning, beside enabling them to get themselves tested at peer level on the extent of exposure to reality in relevance with academics. The competition featured all the three years. One team from each year, consisting of three members, participated in the competition. The event was inaugurated with the motivating words of Hon’ble Principal, Sr. (Dr.) Christine Coutinho. The quiz competition spanned over 2 rounds, with Round 1, conducted by Mr. Nilavo Roy. It was a test on the participants’ cognitive skills with regard to the core concepts of Economics in theory and also events / narrative on Economics in practice. Round 2, conducted by Mr. Mainak Bhattacharjee, involved a test of fact checking on economic statistics and policy developments of recent time, as in the context of India. The program concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks by Dr. Rupa Ghosh and further that, every student, participating directly or indirectly, ended up with the feeling of learning being a fun activity.
