Workshop on Script Writing for Fiction



On 28th April 2025, a workshop on script writing was organized at the auditorium, Loreto College. This was the first workshop of the Write It Right Workshop series organized by the departments of Film Studies, Bengali and Journalism & Mass Communication in collaboration with the IQAC, Loreto College. The esteemed resource person for the workshop was Mr. Atanu Ghosh, national award-winning director and script writer.

The program commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by inspiring addresses by Dr. Amrita Dasgupta, the IQAC Coordinator and Head of the Department of Bengali, Mrs Dipanwita Ghosh, Head of the Department of Film Studies and Dr. Soumya Dutta, Head of the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication. Soon after his felicitation, Mr. Atanu Ghosh took centre stage and shared his extensive experiences and insights into the art of storytelling. He emphasized the importance of the protagonist's journey and the craft of an engaging plot, highlighting how a strong narrative can captivate the audience.

During the session, Mr. Atanu Ghosh showcased clips from his films like Shesh Pata (The Last Page) and Mayurakshi and elaborated on various elements of screenplay writing. His practical insights into structuring scripts, building character arcs, and developing dialogues were immensely beneficial to the participants. In addition, Mr. Ghosh provided valuable knowledge about different types of short-format scripts, the characteristics of effective storytelling, and the significance of dialogue and script revision. It was an enriching experience for the students from Loreto College as well as students and faculty members who joined from other colleges.
