Visit to an Ecological place: The Agri-Horticultural Society of India
The geography students of the Department of B.Ed. visited the AHSI i.e. Agri- Horticultural Society of India, which was founded in 1820 by William Carey on the Alipore Road, Kolkata as a part of the curriculum. The purpose of the visit was to enhance our understanding in conservation of plants, as it is one of the oldest horticultural societies in India and plays a key role in promoting scientific farming and gardening.
During the visit, we observed a wide variety of ornamental plants, flowering species, medicinal herbs, and fruit-bearing trees. The greenhouse section displayed exotic plants and few seasonal flowers. We also learned about different cultivation techniques, plant care, and organic farming methods from the experts present there. The society's emphasis on environmental conservation and sustainable practices left a lasting impression on us.
This particular visit to a place of ecological significance in the midst of the city was both educational and enjoyable. It inspired us to take a greater interest in gardening and environmental protection.
