30 and 31January, 2012: The Mary Ward Festival

The Mary Ward Festival

The Loreto College Alumnae Association organized a number of events to mark the closing of the College Centenary Year. The Mary Ward Festival, held in Loreto College on 30 and 31January, brought together students of the Loreto Schools of Kolkata as well as Loreto College, to share their thoughts about Loreto's founder Mary Ward through essays, poetry and art competitions. Prizes were awarded for the best efforts. Sisters of the Loreto order enacted scenes from the life of Mother Gonzaga Joynt, who founded the college in 1911. Former pupils and teachers, as well as former Principal Sr. Maeve Hughes presented papers on Mary Ward and her vision at a special academic session.

On the evening of 31 January, The Loreto College Dramatics Society collaborated with the Western Cultural Society, Eastern Cultural Society, Art & Craft Society and the Spicmacay Society to perform the ever-popular My Fair Lady, a musical adaption of George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, as part of the college's centenary celebrations.
